Testimonials

Here at RTQ, we value the privacy of our students, and choose to keep all of our testimonials anonymous.

My children have been coming to RTQ for four years and still thoroughly enjoy the sessions. They don’t come for one particular subject or goal, they come to gain confidence and develop an engagement with their learning in surroundings which don’t make it feel like a chore. For me as a parent, having someone I can discuss my childrens’ education at any time is something I value greatly.

RTQ has provided a terrific stimulus, challenge and support for our child. We’ve been very pleased with how he has progressed intellectually and, just as importantly, how his confidence has grown.
He enjoyed his sessions at RTQ so much that he asked to continue after the exam was done! In his own words: “Jo is funny, understanding, interesting and helps you get a lot done.”

Jo has worked with both of my children on a one-to-one basis, adapting her tuition style to meet their different learning styles and abilities.

She has a genuine passion for guiding young people, enabling them to develop and achieve their goals. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Jo worked out what made my daughter tick - she helped her fulfil her potential and I don’t think you can ask for more from a teacher.

”Our daughter loves her sessions with Jo and her confidence with maths has improved remarkably.  She also gets to do fun science stuff that school doesn’t have the time or opportunity to cover.
Jo’s dynamism and enthusiasm have been a really positive influenceon our child; and as parents we find that Jo is both organised and very flexible in her approach.
What more could we ask?”

Jo has worked with my daughter on her eleven plus preparation and I cannot speak too highly of her ability to get the absolute best from young learners. She has very high expectations for her students and knows just the best way for them to achieve them.

My girls have loved going to RTQ. They are both girls who love learning, sadly sometimes that pleasure in learning is not nurtured through the school system, and sometimes the school system, beleaguered as it is by a results driven ethos and high pupil/teacher ratios, simply can’t tailor work to the individual. At RTQ, they have felt stimulated, enthused and encouraged. One has regained her lost confidence in maths, they have both grown in confidence overall, with a renewed joy for learning. They have been been sad to leave! That, for me, is what learning is about. Grades are less important, but in case you’re interested, they have both thrived!

My daughter was very ill as a young child and when Jo began teaching her maths, her levels were so low, she barely registered. Thanks to Jo’s targetted academic input, encouragement and support, she is doing well at school, starting her GCSEs and in the top set for several subjects. Jo and the RTQ team offer an excellent, individually tailored service for children of all abilities. I cannot praise them enough!

I first went to RTQ for my maths GCSE and now I go for A Level Maths and Physics. Not only has it boosted my Physics grade from a U to an A but has made me more confident and is just a generally nice environment to learn and study. Jo and Toby and all the tutors are lovely and I would definitely recommend to anyone who not only wants to get a better grade but who also wants more confidence and to enjoy learning. 5*

I studied at RTQ for a year before my eleven plus and I was so grateful to Jo and all the amazing staff who work there, I recommend it to anyone who is looking to get tuition for anything and it is also a great place for kids because it is a very productive environment.

My three children have very different personalities, learning styles and therefore support needs, each of them have happily bounced into RTQ every week! I think this is down to an individualised and child/young person centred approach in a cosy environment where they feel confident, empowered to learn and achieve their potential. Jo and the team exude positivity and have been incredibly supportive. Thank you!

My son came to RTQ originally to help with his confidence with writing, and get focussed SEN support that he wasn’t getting elsewhere. With Jo and the other tutors he flourished, the difference they made can not be underestimated.

I have had the pleasure of Jo supporting all of my 3 children for their 11+ exam over the last 10 years. All my children are very different in temperament and learning styles. But I have been amazed at how very quickly Jo has absolutely understood them, their motivation, interests and individual styles. She has tailored her teaching and lessons to their strengths and managed to get the best out of them all. They have all enjoyed their time with her, have grown in confidence and excelled. Jo and her team are all highly professional, caring, honest, encouraging and skilled. I have no hesitation in recommending her service to anyone wanting support for 11+ examinations.

Jo Austin and her team have tutored all three of my sons in the last 6 years and the experience was transformative. For one it unlocked a door to higher thinking, gave another confidence and self belief and the other a chance to reach for the stars. Jo’s ability to decode and help realise each student’s unique talents is uncanny. We started out on one journey - in our case the 11+ (which they all passed) - and came out equipped and ready for another. I cannot recommend the experience highly enough.

Jo has delivered on her aim of tutoring both my children through their GCSE’s, however the ‘add ons’ they have absorbed through her style of teaching go much further than qualifications. Her supportive and positive attitude towards her students cannot fail to be felt by them and as a result both of my children have a far greater confidence in themselves academically and personally. I can’t thank her enough!

Jo and Toby were recommended to us by a friend. Our son was progressing well at school but needed more confidence in maths. Through their child focused approach our son developed not only his maths ability but importantly his confidence grew across all areas. When it came to deciding whether he should sit the 11 plus exam we knew that the preparation, hard work and encouragement given meant he had the desire and confidence to do it. Jo and Toby have played a big part in ensuring that our son will start his secondary school journey in September a confident/self sufficient and resilient boy.

I loved going to RTQ and my confidence improved so much in my maths . They are really nice people who are so helpful & so understanding of whatever level you work at. 5*

Both my children have attended RTQ to receive individualised support through their GCSE’s. Jo’s outgoing personality helps to create a fun and social learning environment where the children thrive. Not only do the children learn from Jo and the team, but they are actively encouraged to help each other. The impact of this style of teaching can be seen in all their lessons as their confidence in their own ability has grown.

My two children studied with Jo and her team for their 11+ exams. After a thorough assessment, Jo embarked on a tailor-made programme for each child that suited their learning style and temperament; a truly personalised service. Her academic skills, energy, commitment and honesty made me feel that my children were receiving the very best guidance and training possible. I would recommend using her services without hesitation.

My daughter started going to RTQ in 2009. When she started lessons with Jo she had low levels in Math, English and Science. My daughter enjoyed her lessons with Jo and her attitude towards school and studying changed, becoming more positive and feeling more confident. Jo supported her and gave her the confidence to take on new challenges for which I was very grateful. Jo supported my daughter all the way though secondary school and up to her final exams. Jo is an excellent and inspiring teacher who knows how to take the best out of her students, finding ways to challenge each student to their maximum potential and show them how the school and learning experience can be enjoyable and full of adventure. Thank you to Jo will just not be enough in this case. I am now starting to send my son to Jo, knowing that he is in a good hands. “Anyone who teaches me deserves my respect, honoring and attention.” - Sonia Rumzi - Jo deserves it and I recommend Jo as the best teacher for parents and students.

RTQ has provided an absolutely brilliant service for our son, when he first came he was struggling at school with dyslexia and lacking in confidence , Jo was able to turn things around giving our son the tools and confidence to succeed , she went above and beyond what we could hope for in the time and energy she put into supporting him . Jo and the staff at RTQ make the learning fun and were able to engage a young person who had lost motivation. The hard work paid off with excellent GCSE results and a much more confident young person , a massive thank you to Jo and all the staff at RTQ

Jo and her team have been tutoring my son since October 2021. On first meeting this anxious boy she immediately knew how he ‘ticked’. She has a unique talent for not only teaching education but for teaching life skills and building children’s confidence and resilience. It is a safe environment for all. With the help of Jo and her team my son had gone from 0-10 with his confidence for learning. He has started to enjoy his education again. With her help he has gone from me having to drop him at the door, to him walking to the train station, catching the train to Hebden Bridge on his own and catching one back again. I cannot put into words how thankful I am that we found the RTQ family. For the first time in years my son is happy with his life and that is all down to Jo and her team. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for everything you are doing for my boy.
