Read The Question
Enabling students to reach their potential
through tailored tutoring since 2000
“I loved going to Read The Question, and my confidence improved so much in my maths . They are really nice people who are so helpful & so understanding of whatever level you work at.”
Who we are…
Read The Question has been providing top quality, tailored tutoring in Hebden Bridge for 20 years.
We give our students the tools and support they need to achieve their potential in all areas of their lives; not just academically, but socially and personally too.
Since establishing in 2000, our students have achieved very high pass rates for their 11 plus exams, and every Read The Question student has passed their GCSE maths first time. In the last 2 years, 18 of our Read The Question students have gone to Oxbridge.
What we provide…
We provide lessons for students of all ages, from reception, to university and beyond, specialising in the 11 plus exam, GCSE and A-Level courses.
We provide children from all backgrounds and of all abilities with a ‘safe space’, where they are able to enjoy learning and endeavour to be the best they can be.
Why choose us..?
We help all of our students, regardless of their personal circumstances, reach their potential.
That’s because we don’t have a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
Instead, we tailor our teaching for each individual student. We see our students as whole people: we go beyond just academic achievement, and aim to build confidence and self-esteem in each of them.
How we enable our students to reach their potential…
Knowing every student is the key to our success.
Individual, personal focus is at the heart of Read The Question and deeply influences the distinctive character of our community.
Tutors work with small numbers of students, enabling them to really get to know each of them, their goals and their family. Every student has a sympathetic mentor, with whom they can share interests and voice any concerns, confident that they will receive support from someone who knows them well.
We seek to create an environment in which every student feels valued as an individual, and is challenged to fulfil their potential, whatever their talents, attributes and personal goals.
Where we are based…
Read The Question is based in the centre of Hebden Bridge, Calderdale.
We are very proud to be part of our local community here in Hebden, and as part of this, our founder, Joanne Austin, established our sister programme, ATQ.
Our programme gives local children from disadvantaged backgrounds access to our tutoring service, thanks to help from local families, businesses and trusts.
“After a thorough assessment, Jo embarked on a tailor-made programme for each child that suited their learning style and temperament; a truly personalised service. ”
We offer a wide variety of different courses and tutoring options with high levels of expertise in each field.
We are not only mentors to students in terms of their academic lives, but also act as a personal mentor for their individual development.
We set each student achievable and personalised goals to enable them to reach their potential.
We offer a bespoke style of tutoring for each student, with courses and teaching tailored to their abilities.
We have created Read The Question as a community within the wider community, with every one of our students feeling part of our family atmosphere, and we further offer help to students from disadvantaged and diverse backgrounds.
We focus on the development of the whole student, as opposed to a solo focus on academic achievements.
The 11+ exam has been around for many years, and over the years has changed considerably. We have a very in-depth knowledge of the 11+ syllabus and exam and have an excellent pass rate for our children who take the exam.
We teach a variety of GCSE subjects, and provide extra support to students before they sit their exams. We have professional and highly-qualified teachers and assistants who tailor their teaching according to the student’s needs.
We can provide extra learning support to students sitting their A Level exams in subjects such as mathematics, biology, english literature, physics and more.
We tutor students of all ages and abilities, from reception, all the way through to university studies and beyond. We provide every single one of our students with the same degree of respect and attention, whatever their academic level.
“Jo is an excellent and inspiring teacher who knows how to take the best out of her students, finding ways to challenge each student to their maximum potential and show them how the school and learning experience can be enjoyable and full of adventure. ”
